The Nepenthes are a genus of carnivorous plants, they love to be kept moist at all times so don't let them dry out! The pitchers themselves aren't flowers but are actually modified leaves, when a new leaf emerges the tiny pitcher is already at the end of the leaf but not yet developed or formed, over time the pitcher will fill out, humidity will help hasten pitchers development. The pitchers contain digestive enzymes that attracts insects. Once inside the pitcher the insects will dissolve into a juicy liquid which the plant will then feed on, great for those annoying fungus gnats! Over time the lower pitchers will go brown and eventually die off, cutting the pitchers off once they've died is encouraged.
